    Hello,

Installing Develper suite 10gR2 on Windows 7 64-bit Oracle supported/certified method. It is only supported to be installed and run on 32 bit Windows 7 as described in Note 1292919.1 How to Install Oracle Developer Suite 10g (10.1.2) on Windows 7 (32-bit) (Doc ID 1292919.1).

Also, please see the 10gR2 Certification Reference(http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/ias/downloads/as-certification-r2-101202-095871.html#BUCEIHKM).

The only Forms/Reports Development installation that is supported on 64 bit windows and other 64 bit platforms is the 11gR2 installation(http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23104_01/download_readme_cr2/download_readme_cr2.htm).

However, an unsupported solution is to take advantage of the Windows 7 XP Mode feature(http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/products/features/windows-xp-mode). This feature allows an XP Virtual PC to run on your Windows 7 64 bit machine so that a 32 bit environment is created to run 32 bit SW. You can then accomplish an installation of Developer Suite 10gR2 on the XP virtual machine.

    Regards,
    Alex

Ok, you have to remember that Oracle Developer Suite (ODS) 10g was written before well before Windows 7. Officially, ODS 10g is not Oracle Certified or supported on Windows 7 64-bit. Having said that, it can be made to work - relatively easy. Following these steps to install:

    1. As you have discovered, ODS 10g installer can't check Virtual Memory (VM) when it is managed by Windows. Therefore, you have to change the VM to specific sizes for the ODS installer to be able to read the settings. I recommend you set the Minimum to 2048 and the Max to 4096. See Microsoft Support article Change the size of virtual memory for instructions on changing the VM sizes. Once the installation is complete, you can change VM back to Windows Managed.

    2. The ODS installer also checks for specific versions of Windows. The next error you would have gotten is that the installer needs Windows 5.0, 5.1, 5.2 or 5.3. You have to set the compatibility option to Windows XP service pack 3. Also, Oracle products are not designed to use "Least Privileges" so you must explicitly run the installer as Administator.

To set the compatibility and run-as - Right-Click on the Setup.exe and select Properties => Compatability tab => Compatability Mode => select "Run this program in compatability mode for : Windows XP (Service Pack 3). While in the Compatability Tab - also check the "Run this program as an administrator" as well.

Having made these changes - run the installer. The ODS should install successfully now.

After installation is complete, you will need to update the properties of the Program Group shortcuts to make them run as an administrator also.

    Hope this helps,
    Craig B-)
