New Forum Interface (Not happy!)

PPlatt Explorer
Currently Being Moderated

I've just logged onto the new APEX forum interface and I'm lost!  Where do I enter my questions? Is there any online help available.  The FAQ are from the old system. Also I've noticed that the search and page refresh is extremely slow compared to the old version??

I hope I'll be able to find how to retrieve a response to this posting !!

    Hi

New APEX forum has so many new features..once you started to use you will like it. Old APEX forum created using APEX. but the new forum created by Jive technology. You will receive the notification mail and message when response comes.

    Thanks

Most of them useless and unwanted.

..once you started to use you will like it.

    I don't.

Old APEX forum created using APEX.

No it wasn't. It was a previous version of Jive.

As you could on the previous version. Much more important is why Jive features in earlier posts (like links and formatting) were not migrated to the new platform. Years of useful information is now either harder to find or largely unreadable.

Your comments about the workability of the forum belongs in this "Space/ forum:Community feedback and suggestions " where it is read by people who can actually do something with your suggestions.

    Nicolette

PS with just adding Community feedback and suggestions in this reply it will show up on the activity tab of that space/forum a new feature that is a plus imho.

Thanks for the marketing response Lakshmi, but that doesn't help me.  I'm still in need of online help on how to navigate the new interface.  I'm wasting precious time trying to sort out just how to search for posts and how to post a question.  I don't care about the bells and whistles, I just want to do keyword searches in APEX content.

Nicolette, I would follow your suggestion if I knew what  a "Space" was and how to find "Space/ forum:Community feedback and suggestions "

Is there anyone out there who can actually offer some helpful advice in the following format?

    To search the APEX forum

    Step 1:...

    Step 2...

    To post a new question

    Step 1...

    Step 2...

    thnks in advance

Sorry Lakshmi the FAQs do not answer what I need to know, which is:

    1)  How to get context of a specific forum

    2)  How to search threads for information within a forum

    3)  How do I post a new message or respond to a message

    4)  How do I retrieve my posted questions (one FAQ may be helpful here)

Are you seeing red? I know I am.

The banner is 2-3 times bigger than the one on oracle.com

    PaulP,

    1)  How to get context of a specific forum

Go to Home-> Under communities-> Go to Oracle Database-> Click on Application Express.

The Navigation looks like this=> All Places > Developer > English > Oracle Database > Application Express > Discussions

    2)  How to search threads for information within a forum

Open some specific forum-> go to content tab and type text in the textfield and give Enter.

    3)  How do I post a new message or respond to a message

After logging in, Suppose you want to post question in APEX forum means Go to APEX forum-> There is a small region called 'Actions'-> Select Start a discussion-> Mark the checkbox below the subject to make the discussion as a question else unmark it to make it as discussion.

    4)  How do I retrieve my posted questions (one FAQ may be helpful here)

After logging in, Click on your username-> Go to content tab->Under Authored, You can see your posts. Under participated, You can see the posts where you participated.

It will be slow as you said...:( I too had some difficulties like you at first now i can able to manage..

someone can suggest better way other than this if you know.. It will helpful for all who are all following this thread...

    Thanks

    OK Finally some real help!

So a "Space" is equivalent to a "Forum".

Why are "Spaces" not alphabetically sorted?

A "Navigation" is equivalent to a "Breadcrumb Menu"

Thanks Lakshmi, that's ALL I needed to know to get me started.

My first reaction was clicking the link I gave you. Until I noticed that in an attemted to only use the simple editor I managed to create a link with a faulty url.

I really should have tested that on posting. ( I have corrected the link in the mean time)

An otherway to get there is clicking Home there you will see a list of all the space/forums grouped and sorted the same as on the "all forums" page in the old interface.

Writing space/forum wasn't a clue enough that they are the same thing.

An imported thing to get in the new interface is that the "overview" and "content" tab don't display the same information.

Overview displays all posts correlated with Application express. Not only posts in the space Application express. But also posts in other spaces mentioning Application express. Another thing is that posts are not grouped together by discussion/thread but are displayed as the come in.

Content displays the posts pretty much like we are used to with the old interface.

Is it too much to ask to put this information up on the FAQs?

This 1000000 times needs to be in the FAQ.  I've spent 2 weeks trying to figure this out.

    1)  How to search a specific forum

Open some specific forum-> go to content tab and type text in the textfield and give Enter.

BTW, this is not intuitive at all and is just embarrassing.  Either a search in the header defaults to the community i'm in or a select list should be up in the header.

There are many roads to Rome.

After using the search in the header you can futher restrict you're sure by typing in the name of the space in Restrict to a Group or Space:.

A catch is that the space here is called Application Express and apex or any other variation.

Yes it would be nice if the space you're in is set at default for the general search.

But what about all the pages where you're not in a specific space. Such as Dashboard and Communications.

Also posting what you would like to see in the FAQ in the forum that is especially for that stuff would help in actually getting it in there.

Now everybody here at Application Express may agree with you. But if nobody that actually writes the FAQ reads this it will never get in there.
