    SCAN Problems  Installing in lab enviorinment (no DNS)

    user74027

      Hi - Im having trouble startingteh cluster install - it is asking for a SCAN Name - this is a private project and I dont have access to a dns server.

      Ive tried the hack provided by Jeff Hunter - which modifies the nslookup binary and although the results look good - the installer checks says it cant resolve.

      ie

      mv   /usr/bin/nslookup   /usr/bin/nslookup.original

      vi /usr/bin/nslookup

      #!/bin/bash

      HOSTNAME=${1}

      if [[ $HOSTNAME = "lab-cluster-scan" ]]; then

          echo "Server:75.75.75.75"

          echo "Address:75.75.75.75#53"

          echo ""

          echo "Non-authoritative answer:"

          echo "Name:lab-cluster-scan"

          echo "Address:192.168.1.200"

      else

          /usr/bin/nslookup.original  $HOSTNAME

      fi

      returns

      dim4700 /mnt/nas # nslookup lab-cluster-scan

      Server: 75.75.75.75

      Address: 75.75.75.75#53

      Non-authoritative answer:

      Name: lab-cluster-scan

      Address: 192.168.1.200

      But the installer still  says it cant resolve. Ive tried adding entries to teh hosts file - but the installer says - that ip belongs to another service.

      ie

      #192.168.1.202  lab-cluster-scan.com  lab-cluster-scan

      Installer dosnt like that either...

      can someone tell me how to setup or get past the scan check. Again - I dont have access to dns server. I dont think there is a prerequsite check for a dns server to play around with rac and clusterware

      Much appreciated!!
