    Error 6 initializing SQL*Plus

      Hi all,

      I have searched through the forums and google over the past few days trying to solve the above error message I am getting when I try to login to sqlplus. The full message is:

      Error 6 initializing SQL*Plus

      SP2-0667: Message file sp1<lang>.msb not found

      SP2-0750: You may need to set ORACLE_HOME to your Oracle software directory

      I found lots of resources of people experiencing the very same issue but none of the solutions offered have worked for me (admittedly I could potentially have misunderstood them as i'm new to Solaris and oracle 11g R2)

      I have installed Solaris 11 and Oracle 11g Release 2. I am accessing the server through MobaXterm.

      Bash profile file contents:

      case ${SHELL} in

          typeset +x PS1="\u@\h:\w\\$ "

      B    ;;

      umask 022

      uBlimit -s 32768

      ulimit -n 4096

      export LANG

      The above isn't exactly how it was when I first installed and set everything up due to editing it to try and see if I can get things working.

      listener.ora file is

      # listener.ora Network Configuration File: /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1/networ$

      # Generated by Oracle configuration tools.

      LISTENER =

          (DESCRIPTION =

            (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 192.x.x.x)(PORT = 1521))

            (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC1521))

      ADR_BASE_LISTENER = /u01/app/oracle

      tnsnames.ora contents

      orcl =

        (DESCRIPTION =

          (ADDRESS_LIST =

            (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 192.x.x.x)(PORT = 1521))

          (CONNECT_DATA =

            (SERVER = SHARED)

            (SERVICE_NAME = orcl)

      If I try connecting through sqldeveloper (which is the true endgame) I get the following error:

      The network Adaptor could not establish the connection.

      Hopefully the above is enough information.
