I was on a call today where a storage vendor voiced concern that Oracle is dropping support for virtualization while we were discussing Oracle Virtual Server.
That concerned me so I did some searches and only found an announcement that a portion of the VDI portfolio was being killed.
My hope/assumption at this point is that the person who said that didn't understand the difference between Oracle Virtual Desktop Infrastructure Software and Oracle Virtual Server.
Anyone aware of any other announcements or strategic changes ?
The announcement really has nothing to do with Oracle VM. Its an attempt at realign the virtual desktop offerings from Oracle.
Going forward, Oracle's desktop portfolio investments will be focused on continued development and new enhancements to both Oracle Secure Global Desktop and Oracle VM VirtualBox software.
I don't know too many people that run Oracle's virtual desktop offerings. I think its a good thing for them to re focus their efforts. I see no end to Oracle VM. It is the only virtual offering officially supported for any Oracle product. I have read that Oracle and Microsoft on working on plans to certify each others offerings. Don't know if it will happen or not.
