RMAN does not always provide you result in sorted way in accordance with the Sequence#. You will find so called "missing sequence#" in the list. Also you may find same sequence# in different pieces.
select max(seq#) from v$archived_log;
You can specify UNTIL SCN or UNTIL CANCEL for your recovery.
Yes, it does work, only a note: not 'seq#' but 'sequence#'
