    Jumpstart x86 stuck at beginning of installation-sequence

    dermute

      Hello,

      I have a hardly analyzable problem with my jumpstart installation for x86 systems. (Btw: for sparc everything works fine)

      The Jumpstart server is an x86-machine with Solaris 11.1 and I want to deploy Solaris 10 Update 10.

      The x86-client boots up with PXE from my jumpstart. I select "Custom Jumpstart" and it boots up an XWindows System with the Installation-Terminal: http://abload.de/img/1krums.png

      After completing this step, the system is just stuck at the purple screen and doesn't do anything (It has been active over night): http://abload.de/img/2uiulj.png

      You may need all my configuration...:

      • The Installation-media and Serverfiles are at /export/js/x86/s10u10
        root@jsServer # ls /export/js/x86/s10u10/
        Copyright                          Solaris_10/                        installer*                        Offer_to_Provide_Source_Code.txt   boot/

      • The sysidcfg
        root@jsServer # cat /export/js/SYSIDCFG/myX86Server/sysidcfg
        network_interface=PRIMARY
        {
        hostname=myX86Server
        ip_address=10.94.252.103
        netmask=255.255.255.0
        protocol_ipv6=no
        default_route=none
        }
        name_service=none
        nfs4_domain=dynamic
        root_password='hh.iG1xYSWFy2'
        security_policy=NONE
        system_locale=en_US.ISO8859-15
        terminal=vt100
        timezone=Europe/Berlin
        timeserver=localhost
        auto_reg=disable

      • the important content of the rules file
        hostname myX86Server - x86_profile scripten/finish

      • The x86_profile
        root@jsServer # cat /export/js/config/x86_profile
        # install_type MUST be first
        install_type      initial_install

        # start with the minimal required number of packages
        cluster           SUNWCXall

        fdisk   all     solaris all
        #fdisk  rootdisk        0x83    delete
        #fdisk  rootdisk        solaris all

        # define how the disk is partitioned
        #partitioning   default

        # pool poolname poolsize swapsize dumpsize vdevlist
        pool rpool auto 24g auto any

        # bootenv installbe bename new-BE-name [dataset mount-point]
        bootenv installbe bename zfsroot dataset /var

        # install systems as standalone
        system_type standalone

        # locale
        geo             C_Europe        # ceu
        geo             N_America       # nam

      I tried different layouts with the fdisk format (and I tried it without this option), but nothing changed.

      • Thats my add_install_client
        ./add_install_client -d -e 00:1b:78:59:84:78 -c 10.94.252.4:/export/js/config -p 10.94.252.4:/export/js/SYSIDCFG/gisor35 -s 10.94.252.4:/export/js/x86/s10u10 i86pc

      • And finally the dhcpd4.conf for PXE Boot (partial)
        subnet 10.94.252.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 {
          range 10.94.252.230 10.94.252.230;
          max-lease-time 60;
          deny unknown-clients;
          next-server 10.94.252.4;
        }

        option arch code 93 = unsigned integer 16;

        host 01001B78598478 {
                hardware ethernet 00:1B:78:59:84:78;
                if option arch = 00:00 { filename "01001B78598478"; }
        }

      I hop that are all relevant facts to know. As I said: The system boots successfully from PXE till i have the selection of "Custom Jumpstart", "Interactive text...", "Add drivers".... and so on. After starting custom jumpstart it hangs on the purple screen postet above.

      The settings for all the paths in the add_install_client seems to be correct to. After all these failed trys I startet the interactive console installer via PXE and all the paths were filled out in the installer with my given options. This setup progress just worked after filling out some information normally given by the profile. The sysidcfg worked too.

      Has anybody a hint for me, how to fix the problem?

      Thank you and best regards

      Alex!
