Since I am pretty new with this whole process , what can I do to actually open it without redoing everything over again ?

Depends upon how you built it. If you used RMAN this might work :
RMAN Incremental Backups to Roll Forward a Physical Standby Database
How large is your Primary Database?
That looks like another possibility, will try those steps and report back
My primary db is about 110gb
Any chance you can create the standby from active database using RMAN?
Once it setup for this you can recreate the Standby as needed.
Depending upon the network this would take a few hours and you will notice the load on the Primary for sure.
All done ... I recreated the standby with the rman backup from the active primary and also a new stby controlfile ( shipped over ).
All works fine now and I can open it after logs were syncing.
