    Oracle 11g R2 Express on Linux x64 - User/Password question

    FSB Computers

      Hey guys,

I just installed Oracle 11g R2 Express on a Linux x64 box using the RPM (no installation wizard) from the oracle website, I'm trying to connect, but I can't find anywhere what is the first time username and password I should use to login to it.

Does anybody know where I can find this, or if somebody can tell me what they are?

      Thanks.

          Hi,

          Please try logins:

          Username: system

          Password: manager

otherwise simple connect as sysdba as:

          sqlplus / as sysdba

Once connected you may change as other users login.

          Hope this helps!

          Best Regards,

I tried connect system/manager@localhost from SQL *Plus but it said TNS: no listener

I checked the oracle-xe daemon and it's running, I have no firewall or selinux enabled on that box, so it's not blockage.

Any ideas what can be causing that?

            Thanks

I also tried from SQL *Plus connect as sysdba using system/manager and it said insufficient privileges

                Hi,

SQL *Plus but it said TNS: no listener

Go to Services, and ensure you start the listener service ( It must be something like OracleListenerXE -please check as I cant exactly remember the wording)

and in the command prompt also issue command:

                lsnrctl start

After that please try to connect as:

                sqlplus / as sysdba

                Hope this answers.

                Best Regards,

What os user were you when you did that?  Is that user a member of the 'dba' group?

                  Show us the results of:

                  id

                  env | egrep 'ORA|PATH' | sort

                  sqlplus / as sysdba

I was doing that as root, but I just tried something else and got a different error.

I uninstalled it, deleted the /u01 folder, re installed it, ran /etc/init.d/oracle-xe configure as root and when configuring the database it fails, so I'm stuck on this one now.

Oh and by the way it fails, when I run connect as sysdba in SQL *Plus it now says connected to an idle instance, but I cannot connect using SQL Developer.

                    Any ideas?

I tried it on Oracle Enterprise Linux 6.4 too and got the same error as CentOS 6.4

When running /etc/init.d/oracle-xe configure as root it fails,

This is what the log files say:
