I wanted to install Oracle database and client on same system in Windos7 OS. Database is oracle 11g R2 Standard db and concerned client. Will there be any conflict while over folder/directory locations?
Why ,that would be the first question. And to answer, if you have installed the server software, you would get all what is going to be given by the client plus a lot more. In the same home, the client won't be installed. So if you really want to do it, you must do in a separate home but then again, why?
Regardless of what "class" of database you install, the server software install includes the client software, as noted above. What is your reason for installing the client separately ? Pl confirm that you are using Win 7 Professional (or higher) - Home versions are not certified for any Oracle installs. Which sqlplus are you using - from the server home or the client home ? Have you followed all of the steps in the Windows Install Guide ?
Yes, the OS is Win7 Ultimate. The reason for installing client is, I have installed Toad for application development purposes. It requires oracle client to access db.
As you said before installing separate client sqlplus was working. After installing sqlplus was giving error while working. Both sqlplus form client home and server home were giving same error.
Again the server software install includes the client software - no separate client install is necessary. For TOAD, the client install is only needed if the target databases are on remote servers.
Search My Oracle Support for "ORA-12560 Windows" and you will find several hits - pl see if any of those are applicable
[I couldn't login into db using sqlplus. I was getting this error: ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter]
Follow below steps
Open command prompt
1. set oracle_sid=<your instance name>
2. sqlplus username/password
<Do not append @instance name>
If this works it means your listener is not configure properly.
Use "net configuration assistance" to add listener.
