How to change the weblogic database IP/Hostname?

Our current development middleware stack contains:

WebLogic, WebCenter, WebTier, & OAM all pointing to the same oracle db repository via an IP address (due to hostname resolution issues.)  Unfortunately the database server's IP changed and I'm unable to start the weblogic admin console in order to change the database IP.

Oracle Guide: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E12839_01/core.1111/e10105/host.htm#CHDBBIAH

Excerpt:

Task 5   Change the System Data Source

If you use the IP address in the data source definition, change the system data source to use the new IP address for the metadata repository. To do so, you use Oracle WebLogic Server Administration Console:

Excerpt of WebLogic Admin Console startup:

<Aug 27, 2013 3:52:03 PM EDT> <Warning> <JDBC> <BEA-001129> <Received exception while creating connection for pool "mds-CustomPortalDS": IO Error: The Network Adapter could not establish the connection.>

For this particular case, we can simply reinstall the whole stack but would prefer a cleaner resolution.
