    lucreate stucks

    mrAibo

      Hallo Kollegs,

      I need your heeeeelp!

I try to migrate my System from UFS to ZFS but the lucreate stucks - doing nothing

I took the reference manual from Oracle.

      I created an ZFS Pool

      # zpool create -f mainpool c0t1d0s0

      and

      # lucreate -c ufsBE -n zfsBE -p mainpool

Determining types of file systems supported

      Validating file system requests

      Preparing logical storage devices

      Preparing physical storage devices

      Configuring physical storage devices

      Configuring logical storage devices

      Analyzing system configuration.

No name for current boot environment.

Current boot environment is named <ufsBE>.

Creating initial configuration for primary boot environment <ufsBE>.

INFORMATION: No BEs are configured on this system.

The device </dev/dsk/c0t0d0s0> is not a root device for any boot environment; cannot get BE ID.

PBE configuration successful: PBE name <ufsBE> PBE Boot Device </dev/dsk/c0t0d0s0>.

here after ~2St. I killed the prozess.

      ps -ef|grep lucreate

          root  7984  7979   0 11:43:40 pts/1       0:00 /bin/sh /usr/lib/lu/lucreate -n zfsBE -a mainpool -m /:mainpool/ROOT/zfsBE:zfs

          root  7979   914   0 11:43:40 pts/1       0:00 lucreate -c ufsBE -n zfsBE -p mainpool

in lustatus I see actual BE

      # lustatus

I start it again but got the same stuck

      # lucreate -c ufsBE -n zfsBE -p mainpool

Please check to make sure you have installed the latest live upgrade patch. The patch number currently follows the format 121430-xx (SPARC) and 121431-xx (x86). The latest patch number for SPARC is 121430-87. You can check your current patch level by running

          showrev -p | egrep '121430|121431'

I've had similar problems in the past for what you have described, and installing the latest patch resolved the issue.

            Hi mrAibo,

It looks like you're trying to create an initial boot environment from your current running environment and create a new environment on a ZFS at the same time.  The easiest way to do that is to use the "-C - " option.  This passes your currently running system into the BE.  I find it good practice to use this as the system can't always properly determine the boot device.

                 # lucreate -C - -c ufsBE -n zfsBE -p mainpool

            Hopefully this helps.
