    Thank you Gera for your prompt reply.

    I must let you know "I" was in error.

    I used the 32-bit installer with jrockit version of 64 bits believing that would be sufficient.

    Using the generic installer includes the 64 bit libraries and that works alright loading the necessary libs.

    This is what it loads now by default in my installation:
    LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/weblogic103/patch_wls1033/profiles/default/native:/weblogic103/wlserver_10.3/server/native/linux/x86_64:/weblogic103/wlserver_10.3/server/native/linux/x86_64/oci920_8

    Mike, did you get to the bottom of this? We are having exactly the same problem with the sparc64 version of the native libs.

    We are seeing the <BEA-280008> message but also driver="wlfileio3". And horrible performance for some web apps

    We are using a solaris 10 zone, and it is expected that it supports direct IO.

    I have opened an SR for it but I was wondering how you got on with your support call?

    I observed that -Djava.library.path option isn't there in the WLS start up command. Add below JAVA_OPTIONS stattement in <DOMAIN_HOME>/bin/startWebLogic.sh after "${JAVA_HOME}/bin/java ${JAVA_VM} -version" line and try it out. This worked for me. This is applicable to Weblogic 10.3.3 on SPARC 64bit sun jvm.

    JAVA_OPTIONS="${JAVA_OPTIONS} -Djava.library.path=${LD_LIBRARY_PATH}"

    Regards,

    Setting LD_LIBRARY_PATH on Solaris64 did not help me. There is an issue with Direct IO on ZFS - not supported by OS. See [WebLogic 10.3.3 on Solaris 10 ZFS file system|http://myforums.oracle.com/jive3/thread.jspa?messageID=5122583&tstart=0#5122583] message on OTN with WLS Bug associated.

    I'm having the same problem, Solaris 10 update 9 Solairs zones, weblogic 10.3.3 installed on ZFS, i'm curios about if the issue was solved.

    I am having the same problem with newest WL 10.3.4 on Windows Server 2003 32 bit. After some investigation here is what I found out: if I use UNC path for domain I am getting an error:

    ####<Mar 2, 2011 5:47:28 PM EST> <Info> <Store> <esdlabappsrv06> <DEServer> <[ACTIVE] ExecuteThread: '0' for queue: 'weblogic.kernel.Default (self-tuning)'> <<WLS Kernel>> <> <> <1299106048681> <BEA-280008> <Opening the persistent file store "_WLS_DEServer" for recovery: directory=\\Esdlabappsrv06\deltek\Costpoint\70\delteke\servers\DEServer\data\store\ default requestedWritePolicy="Direct-Write" fileLockingEnabled=true driver="wlfileio3".>
    ####<Mar 2, 2011 5:47:28 PM EST> <Warning> <Store> <esdlabappsrv06> <DEServer> <[ACTIVE] ExecuteThread: '0' for queue: 'weblogic.kernel.Default (self-tuning)'> <<WLS Kernel>> <> <> <1299106048728> <BEA-280101> <The persistent file store "_WLS_DEServer" is forced to use buffered I/O and so may have significantly degraded performance. Either the OS/hardware environment does not support the chosen write policy or the native wlfileio library is missing. See store open log messages for the requested and final write policies. See the documentation on store synchronous write policy configuration for advice.>

    But if I use mapped drive it works fine:
    ####<Mar 2, 2011 6:11:29 PM EST> <Info> <Store> <esdlabappsrv06> <DEServer> <[ACTIVE] ExecuteThread: '0' for queue: 'weblogic.kernel.Default (self-tuning)'> <<WLS Kernel>> <> <> <1299107489555> <BEA-280008> <Opening the persistent file store "_WLS_DEServer" for recovery: directory=T:\Costpoint\70\delteke\servers\DEServer\data\store\default requestedWritePolicy="Direct-Write" fileLockingEnabled=true driver="wlfileio3".>
    ####<Mar 2, 2011 6:11:29 PM EST> <Info> <Store> <esdlabappsrv06> <DEServer> <[ACTIVE] ExecuteThread: '0' for queue: 'weblogic.kernel.Default (self-tuning)'> <<WLS Kernel>> <> <> <1299107489696> <BEA-280009> <The persistent file store "_WLS_DEServer" (a3b8b31e-65af-4b24-b33a-76fe3acb4a05) has been opened: blockSize=512 actualWritePolicy="Direct-Write(read-buffered)" explicitIOEnforced=false records=13.>

    So it looks like a bug to me( at least in 32 bit version) of dll wlfileio3 - it can't work correctly with UNC path to domain
    Hope this helps!

    It is not fixed in weblogic 10.3.4 either. I am having the same problem on a T6340 using solaris zones.

    Tried various things but the problem persisted. We are using WL 10.3.4 on Solaris SPARC/x86 with 32 and 64 bit jvm. In the end, got below response from Oracle support:

    The above warning message is thrown when file system does not support "direct io" (UNIX O_DIRECT). The file store will automatically change the file io mode to "single-handle-buffered" (UNIX O_SYNC) and will still continue to use Direct-Write policy for its reads and writes. (the terms “Direct-Write” and “direct io” are not synonymous).
    In the future (most likely next release) we will suppress this warning message as this message is not appropriate for this kind of event. There is no action to be taken from your side on this warning message.

    So ignoring this for now.
    Thanks,

    Solution though which i fixed the issue is, to set the Library_Path correctly in commonenv.sh

    Below are the lines

    # Use this for Solaris 10 (32-bit)

    #

    ##LD_LIBRARY_PATH=${LD_LIBRARY_PATH}:${PATCH_LIBPATH}:${WL_HOME}/server/native/solaris/sparc

    ##export LD_LIBRARY_PATH

    #

    # Use this for Linux x86_64 (64-bit)

    #

    ##LD_LIBRARY_PATH=${LD_LIBRARY_PATH}:${PATCH_LIBPATH}:${WL_HOME}/server/native/linux/x86_64

    ##export LD_LIBRARY_PATH

    #

    # Use this for Linux i386 (32-bit)

    #

    LD_LIBRARY_PATH=${LD_LIBRARY_PATH}:${PATCH_LIBPATH}:${WL_HOME}/server/native/linux/i686

    export LD_LIBRARY_PATH
