    Waiting for Gap Email Notification

    yxes2013

      Hi all,

      11.2.0.1

      Aix 6.1

Is there an email system in 11g that will notify me if our standby DB is "waiting for gap"?

What other status value are needed to be watched for?

      Thanks,

      zxy

          Hi,

You  can write a PL/SQL code for checks gap on your standby database.

If there have a warning, then can send a email  to you.

You  can get all information from  v$dataguard_status and v$archive_gap views.

If you using EM,  then you can monitor all databases from  EM very  easy.

            Thanks Mahir,

But I prefer email since you usually see it fast.

              Hi Mahir,

Our gap problem frequently occured becuase we have lots of 250Mb archivelogs generated at maximum of 5 switches per minute. Which our network bandwidth can not accommodate? What is the ideal size of network bandwith should we get? given the above frequency? And an average size of 6Gb archivelogs an hr.

              Thanks,

              zxy

Why  you  are not increase redo log size?

Why you  are not using real time apply ?

The more it will choke the network   It even get choked now at 250Mb failing to transfer logs at stanby site.

How do you manage big archivelogs to be sent to standby site?

                  Thanks

You make sure you don't run a badly designed application on a no-budget network.

If you don't have competent people around, the hardware should accomodate for their waste of resources.

                      Thanks all,

Can you help me how much network bandwith is required if we are generating 6Gb archivelog per hour? during batch run time at 12am to 2am? Other than this time range. The

                      archivelogs is minimal.

It seems your organization doesn't have

                        - a competent DBA

                        - a competent SA

                        - a competent network admin

                        - someone who is prepared to do some simple calculations and doesn't outsource all of his work to a forum of volunteers.

Your ongoing abuse of this forum is really appalling.

Don't you get ashamed of yourself?

Or are you really that lazy.

I am now going to request formally to have you removed from this forum.

Ok fine...In computing bandwidth requirement, do I have just to devide 700Mb/60sec = 12Mbps Network bandwidth?

What if during 12am - 2 am , we use 12Mbps bandwidth and on normal hours we use 2Mbps. Can we get a plan like this from Network companies?

                          Thanks
