Wrong thread, please post these kind of questions in the Community Feedback forum @ https://forums.oracle.com/community/developer/english/technology_network_community/community_feedback_and_suggestions_%2…
I moved the thread out there, but I'm wondering how it is more appropriate and how it is a live question...
> How do you explain your job to your relatives?
How to answer a question depends on the context of that question and audience that will receive the answer.
Parents typically would want to hear that the job pays well, offer good career prospects, and you enjoy it.
Peers would want to know technical details about s/w and h/w architectures, languages used, data volumes, challenges and complexities, and so on.
Interviewers would want to know skill levels and experience.
Bosses would want to know how your job contributes to the business and make it better and more profitable.
Girlfriend would want to know that you have time off to take her out on a romantic date - and a career that would support a family.
There is seldom a single correct answer in the situation you pose.
Well, what's your concern about describing your job to your relatives?
Personally I don't really care what my relatives think of my job - just like I don't really care about theirs other than trying to be polite. Unless they plan to hire me to work for them they will probably get a vague answer like "I work with computers and they give me money. Suckers"
