Hi Folks!!!

I have installed my current version of Oracle 11 g last year and it was working absolutely fine till yesterday. I do not have idea about what went wrong and EM started behaving weird.

I am getting following error :

    Hi Priya,

i got some clue based on your information provided. Look at the line "DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=127.0.0.1)(PORT=1521)))" under the listener status command.  According to this line, the listerner is looking for host 127.0.0.1. But in your listener.ora file host is listening to " (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = localhost)(PORT = 1521))"  host localhost. there is a mismatch here. Please reconfigure/bounce your listerner with your exact hostname, and make sure that your listener is listening to the host which is mentioned in your listener.ora file.. Please do revert with your status.

    Hi DK2010

Can you plz tell me where are these files located?

I have started and stopped, checked the status of dbconsole and listeners a number of times. It makes no difference.

Also, I do not know how many times I have manipulated my tnsnames.ora and listener.ora.

Have imported those files from well-configured systems of friends' (with correcting SID n all), but no success.

Now when I go in browser and mention address "localhost:1158/em",

    I get to see

    Unable to connect

Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at localhost:1158.

The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few

        moments.

If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network

        connection.

If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure

that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

    Try again

emctl status agent ==> Can give you Agent home location

you can find logfile  and trace files from here

    $AGENT_HOME/sysman/log

    $ORACLE_HOME/sysman/log

also check about the DBSNMP Account should be Open

I think You should try Other Browser like IE or Chrome

Why is that a "mis-match"?  Any time a host name is supplied, it gets resolved to an IP address.  Host names in themselves mean nothing .. they are simply an alias for an IP address.  An in the case of host name 'localhost', it universally, by definition, resolves to ip address 127.0.0.1.  So the listener is listening on ip address 127.0.0.1.  And the client is asking sqlnet to route connection requests to 'localhost', which gets resolved to ip address 127.0.0.1.  The listener has no way of knowing or caring if the clients request specified a name to be resolved to an ip address, or if it specified the ip address itself.

    Hi Ed,

Thanks for the explanation. So what could be the problem for this case? Whether the user using wrong port number or something like that?

I'm not sure what is causing the OP's issue ...  one thing I should have mentioned is that requests to ip address 127.0.0.1 will never leave the machine of the client making that request.  However, in the present case, the client and server should both be on the same machine ... the client being the oem agent.

To the OP ... thinking out loud while expanding on the comments with Pradeepcmst .

First, it's pretty poor practice to have the listener on either 'localhost' OR ip address 127.0.0.1, for the very reason I mentioned above.  Requests for that address will never leave the machine from which the request was made.  Having a listener configured for that address means the listener, by definition, will never receive a request from any other computer.

It's a bit of a long shot, but it's possible that through the server's /etc/hosts file, you have configured a disconnect between 'localhost' and ip address 127.0.0.1.  But again, I'd never have the listener on that ip address in the first place.  A proper server will have a NIC configured with a fixed IP address, and it is that address your listener should be using, and it is that address that all clients should be using to route requests to the listener.
