Unable to retrieve target system data 11.1.2.3 HFM adaptor for FDM

Hello Gurus,

Server 1: HFM server

Server 2: FDM server

Server 3: Database server

1. I have successfully created an FDM application using FDM web client.

2. Later on I imported the FDM adapter - FM11X-G6-C into the FDM Workbench and also registered the file fdmFM11XG6C.dll successfully.

3. We then defined Machine profile and also specified the Custom dimensions as available in our HFM application.

4. We then configured the adapter successfully.

5. We are getting the following issue when we navigate through Metadata --> Control tables

Unable to retrieve target system data

6. Log has the following entry

Error:

The fact that the log information is showing this like

         Data Server...................................... <Database server name>

         Database Name.................................... <database name>

         Computer Name.................................... <FDM Server name>

         App Name......................................... <FDM App name>

would suggest the integration controls have not been defined (FDM App name)  and the Machine Profile is invalid otherwise the correct names should be displayed.

As a long shot if you feel all the controls / machine profile are correct, also check out the last entry on the following old discussion with reference to having Drillback switched on/off.  https://forums.oracle.com/thread/2282568

    Hello,

I am getting the correct database server name, database name and other details..however I am not getting anything for the following

    Financial Management Connection:

    App Name........

    Cluster Name.........

    Domain.......

    Connection Status.......No Connection Open

I have tried reimporting and recreating it, however still facing the same issue.

    Assuming:

    • HFM application has all the necessary dimensions
    • All of the options for the target HFM adapter have been filled out correctly in addition to making the number of custom dimensions match the application
    • You also did the config step on the adapter (right-click Configure) - per the adapter readme
    • The user you are logging into FDM has access to HFM
    • The HFM server referenced in the machine profile matches an HFM cluster name that was registered on the FDM server
    • FDM has been succesfully configured with shared services
    • HFM client installed on the FDM server

Here are a few things you might want to check:

    • Can you ping the HFM server from FDM
    • Look at the Connect Action under the HFM adapter...make sure the adapter name matches

    • HFM application has all the necessary dimensions

            YES

    • All of the options for the target HFM adapter have been filled out correctly in addition to making the number of custom dimensions match the application

            YES

    • You also did the config step on the adapter (right-click Configure) - per the adapter readme

            YES

    • The user you are logging into FDM has access to HFM

YES (we have the same DCOM user for HFM and FDM)

    • The HFM server referenced in the machine profile matches an HFM cluster name that was registered on the FDM server

YES (we have used the HFM cluster name in the source machine name)

    • FDM has been succesfully configured with shared services

            YES

    • HFM client installed on the FDM server

            NOT INSTALLED (Is it needed?)

I am able to ping the HFM server from the FDM server and the Adaptor name is correct.

Unless it has changed with 11.1.2.3, any server with an application that wil interact with the data in HFM requires the client to be installed if it is not the HFM server itself.  The HFM client provides the cluster connect and DCOM setup that is required for connectivity.  Otherwise, FDM has no idea how to translate the cluster name to a server name.  I would try this first as it is a quick install - make sure it is ONLY the HFM client..it is easy to accidentally install the whole application one is not paying attention.

Has "Configure DCOM" for the HFM ADM Driver been ran on the FDM application server?

Do the "Foreign Name" of each of the custom dimensions match the dimension label in the HFM Application?

Thank you all for your help...

It was an issue with the Machine profile configuration, where I had updated the username and password and it had to be kept blank.

Keeping the username password blank in the machine profile configuration resolved the issue.
