Install SQL Developer on mac os x 10.6.8 help

    af3d11d7-ed29-4a73-88f7-ceeeb1a4e017

Total non-technical person here, need help starting this program for a class.  I've downloaded and unzipped the file, and then I see instructions to run "sh sqldeveloper.sh" but that only results in "sh: sqldeveloper.sh: No such file or directory"

      help?

          Yes, java is installed

          java version "1.6.0_51"

Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_51-b11-457-10M4509)

Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.51-b01-457, mixed mode)

^^ that's the most recent version available to my operating system.

Those instructions are for Mountain Lion (10.8) -- I have Snow Leopard (10.6.x).

Those instructions also just say "unzip and run it".... double clicking the icon doesn't do anything.

          :-\

open a cmd console and launch the .sh file from the bin directory, what do you see?

This is assuming your darwin.conf file has the path to the java install set correctly?

              <- Newbie.

by "bin directory" do you mean the bin file in the sqldeveloper package?  something like...

              sqldeveloper-3.2.20.09.87-macosx/SQLDeveloper.app/Contents/Resources/sqldeveloper/sqldeveloper/bin ?

by "launch the .sh file" you mean...?

              I don't know what darwin.conf is

you need to open a terminal window, under applications > utilities

cd to your sqldev 'install' folder

then go into the bin subdirectory, and execute the sqldeveloper.sh file

You should get some sort of error message back indicating why sqldev won't start up normally
