Smart View is causing Outlook to fail and run-time error 13 appears.
We therefore need to disable SV in Outlook (we dont use it anyway).
This can be done in outlook in "Options" -> "Advanced" -> "Disable Smart View in Outlook", but nothing happends when we do, and after
restarting Outlook SV is still running. What is causing this?
Could it be a bug? We are using SV version 18.104.22.168.
Did you try using the Save as Default option when you checked Disable Outlook? It's the little downward arrow next to OK. I'm also wondering if it could be some sort of insufficient user privileges on the computer, is the user a local admin to the computer that you are testing with?
I did that too. I'm an administrator so it shouldnt be a problem.
Several other users got the same problem as me. The reason we want to remove it from Outlook is because the "Smart View.pst" is causing outlook to generate these run-time error 13 warnings.
I even tried to install the newest version of Smart View on a stand-alone computer without restrictions so see if it worked there. Still the "Disable Smart View in Outlook" dont have any effect.
You can always remove Smart View.pst using Outlook Options and disable smart view and restart outlook and see if it works.
I remember after removing Smart View.pst, has resolved the issue
I tried that one too. Thx nevertheless.
First I tried to physically delete the Smart View.pst from my HDD, removing it from the Outlook options and last disabling Smart View before restarting Outlook.
When I opened Outlook I saw that Outlook automatically restored the file back into its folder.
When I tried deleting the file withough deleting it from the Outlook options a message "Cannot store Smart View task lists in separate folders. Use Tasks folder instead." --> Each time I logged on Outlook.
I think its trolling me.
I was able to remove it from Outlook (SV 22.214.171.124.000 and Outlook 2010 32 bit) using disable from outlook option.
You can look at this registry entry if it is a 64bit system HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office\PowerPoint\Addins\Hyperion.CommonAddin and see whether it is there. (it shouldn't be there if it is disabled)
32 bit HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins\Hyperion.CommonAddin
If you still find the SmartView.pst file is updating, try to remove the Smartview.pst file using Outlook:
Outlook 2003: File-> Data File Management…
Outlook 2007: File-> Data File Management…
Outlook 2010: File-> section Info-> button Account Settings-> Account Settings…-> tab Data Files…
Outlook 2013: File-> section Info-> button Account Settings-> Account Settings…-> tab Data Files…
