    rman backup

    yxes2013

      Hi all,

      11.2.0.1

      Do I need to issue the RMAN command REPORT OBSOLETE, before I can DELETE OBSOLETE backups?

      Is DELETE EXPIRED BACKUP, the same as DELETE EXPIRED BACKUPSET?

      Thanks,

      zxy

          Hi all,

          There are "stubborn" backupset in our FRA that can not be deleted by delete obsolete.

          I tried googling DELETE BACKUPSET UNTIL TIME , and DELETE BACKUPSET FORCE but there is none

          Why is that there exist  the commands above for ARCHIVELOGS?

          Thanks,

            DELETE OBSOLETE does not require REPORT OBSOLETE.

            You cannot use RMAN to delete backups if they don't appear in the LIST BACKUP output  (which would happen if the backups are no longer retained in the repository because, e.g. they are older than control_file_record_keep_time and there are not enough slots in the control file).

              Thanks hemant,

              I really can not understand how to force remove  a backupset even if I read the docs and apply it but it does not work accordingly.

              This is my problem:

              >I have 2 backupsets  dated 2013_10_22 and 2013_10_21.

              >I want to delete the old and retain only the latest.

              > I run

              crosscheck datafilecopy all;

              crosscheck archivelog all;

              crosscheck backup;

              delete noprompt expired backup;

              delete noprompt expired archivelog all;

              delete noprompt obsolete;

              But the old one can not be deleted. Is this because of the parameter setting > CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO RECOVERY WINDOW OF 8 DAYS ?

              Thanks,

                If your retention policy is a recovery window of 8 days, Oracle will only mark obsolete backups older than the latest L0 backup that is before sysdate-8

                  CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO RECOVERY WINDOW OF 1 DAYS;

                  Then run crosscheck backup;

                  delete obsolete;

                  and change it back to value you want
