I'm try to install oracle db in my computer but when I run sudo /etc/init.d/oracle-xe configure script not write data to /etc/default/oracle-xe.
Next when client starting terminal says:
Do you want Oracle Database 11g Express Edition to be started on boot (y/n) [y]:n
Starting Oracle Net Listener...Done
Database Configuration failed. Look into /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/xe/config/log for details
Log file says:
Oracle Database 11g Clusterware Release 184.108.40.206.0 - Production Copyright 1996, 2010 Oracle. All rights reserved.
[ CLSE]clse_get_crs_home: Error retrieving OLR configuration  [Error opening olr.loc file. No such file or directory]

Yeah I also like Debian and run my blog on Debian, but the point behind "certified" operating systems for Oracle Database is that you don't have to spend time and efforts in debugging issues. Why not just install Oracle Enterprise Linux - it's free, you can update it over the net and has pre-configured package to install all the packages and settings needed to run Oracle Database. You can also install VirtualBox and thus having a separate machine with certified OS just for your database - that's a good option.
