For the Live Set dial, it usually means that no full GC has run yet, you can trigger one with the garbage can icon in the Memory tab.
For CPU usage it sounds strange, maybe HotSpot has problems getting the cpu usage data if it's an old
machine or something.
Does it happen all the time, for all
I left it running a while and noticed that, as you said, the live set eventually updated. The CPU never works, for anything. I've looked over the setting but everything looks reasonable. The machine is about 4 or 5 years old. However, when I run JConsole it has no problem reporting CPU usage -- the problem seems limited to JMC.
Is the Processor graph also empty, or is it just the dial?
If you locate the java.lang/OperatingSystem MBean in the MBean browser, do you see any cpu attributed that have values?
Process graph is moving but there is no value. In the MBean browser, ProcessCpuTime has a value that updates when I refresh.ProcessCpuLoad, SystemCpuLoad, and SystemLoadAverage are all "-1".
Could you try looking at the same mbean attributes with JConsole and see if you get something other than "-1" there?
