    DG - creating physical standby using clone VMbox

      Hi,

      I have a VMbox 11.2.0.2 database prebuilt from "Oracle Developer Days".

      Then I clone it as "Oracle Developer Days Clone".

      Since they are now identical, How can I make the clone as my standby DB?

      Can I mount it as standby?

      Thanks,

      Petra-K

          Hi,

          Really it is NOT good idea,

          My suggestion that, create fresh machine, install oracle database software only, and create standby database on new machine.

          Please check : Creating a Physical Standby Database

            Thanks Mahir,

            I have created a standby db  at server2 with

            dbname=ORCL

            db_unique_name=ORCL_STBY

            What service name will I put in my tnsnames.ora?

            ORCL_STBY =

              (DESCRIPTION =

                (ADDRESS_LIST =

                  (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = server2)(PORT = 1521))

                )

                (CONNECT_DATA =

                  (SERVICE_NAME = orcl_stby)

                )

              )

            is it orcl_stby or orcl?

            Thanks

              You are welcome!

              Yes, in standby  side  db name must be same with priamry , but db unique name must be different.

              Good luck!

                It is orcl_stby (secondary location)

                For example in my system: (secondary location)

                      Thanks

                      It is best practice service name is same with service name of standby database.

                      You  must use orcl_stby, isd your priamry service name is orcl.

                      Becuse you are using this service name for FLA_SERVER = orcl.

                      Your way is true.
