Copy app target not listing all application

    Arvind M

      Hi,

We are using copy app utility version 11.1.2.4195. We are using UDL files for the actions and when we are choosing the target, we are able to see only 1 application, though we have two applications in the DB.

      Where can the issue be?

      Thanks,

          Hi there

Are you using classic or EPMA apps, and is it possible you have one of each?

          Thanks

            Hi,

Want to understand how copy app works. We are using EPMA apps and the latest copyapp version.

            Scenario is the below.

            1) We have a Source schema with 1 application ( Say APP1) and a destination schema with 2 application (APP1 and APP2) existing already.

When we try to use source UDL for source schema we are able see Copyapp listing down 1 application. Similarly when we use the destination UDL as destination we are not able to see the two applications present it it already. Whatever is in the source is only being displayed.

And we have noticed that the destination applicaion list differs from user to user ( though we use th same UDL files). I am able to see APP1 alone, but my colleagues are able to see some different APplications including APP1.

            2) So What I want to know is, whether copy app picks applications present from Destination schema or it just lists from some history?

              Hi there,

I think that this is an UDL issue. Do you define a specific user when you create the udl? If not, are you sure that your colleagues can see the APP1 if they are on the db management tool?

              Regards,

Yes. My colleagues can see APP1.

Also, we tried using the destination UDL file at source and we are able to see both the application APP1 and APP2 there. When the same UDL is used as destination, we get varied results.

                  Hi ArvindM,

Try to create a UDL and define the username and password within the UDL. This should solve your issues.

                  Regards,

Looks like Copyapp picks up the history of teh Application names which the specific user had used and displays it in the Destination. This was our inference after we saw different lists coming up for different users.  Can anyone confirm that this is possible?

                      Hi ArvindM,

                      You are correct.

The best way to address this issue is to create a UDL with an emended username and password of a user that has access to all the tables of the sourse or/and destination database.

                      Regards,

                        Thank you Thanos.

We just gave the name of the application we wanted in the destination and proceeded. It worked.

For the Target destination, the CopyApp utility will read the Windows registry and populate the drop down with the names of applications that were previously copied. If this is the first time running the utility then it will show only the Source application name. The registry key read is user specific, HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Hyperion Solutions\HfmCopyApplication\Settings or HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Hyperion Solutions\HfmCopyApplication_x64\Settings, and the values read to populate the drop down are DestApp00 – DestAppXX. You may select an existing application name from the drop down or manually type a new application name. The Target application name must adhere to the naming convention as covered in the Financial Management Administrators guide.

So the destination drop down is not looking inside the destination database that you defined in your destination UDL. The destination UDL is only used for executing the CopyApp. This behaviour differs from the dropdown list when picking a source application.
