I recently created a relational model with over 2000 tables by importing the data from the data dictionary. Unfortunately, I left out a few tables when I initially created the model. How can I add the tables after the fact? I tried to go thru the reimport process again but it doesn't seem like it's adding the tables. Thank you!
what version of DM do you use?
but it doesn't seem like it's adding the tables
You can use search functionality to check whether tables are added to selected model.
Otherwise when going again through import wizard- you can use filtering and sorting in order to check required tables for import:
1) filtering - filter filed allow usage of regular expressions so the power is with you
2) sorting (that works with Data Modeler 4) - usually already import tables appear as checked. Then at step 3 of "Import wizard" (Select objects to import) you can click
on "Selected" column and tables will be sorted by that field separating checked and non checked in 2 groups - you can select region of tables and use "check all" button
Just a couple of points to check:
1. In step 2 of the Data Dictionary Import wizard check that the "Import To" field refers to your existing Relational Model.
2. In step 3 of the Data Dictionary Import wizard check that the extra Tables are selected.
The Compare Models dialog should be displayed after the Import phase is complete. (If you expand the Tables node in the "Tree View" tab, the extra Tables should appear as selected.)
Select the Merge button to merge the new definitions into your model.
To give an overall update, this past Monday, I went ahead and started the import again after I set some parameters in my datamodeler64.conf file:
I started the import after selecting the additional tables and left it since monday thinking that it might take a while with over 2000 tables. However, the compare models dialog box still hasn't popped up. It seems like the memory being taken up by the application is hovering around 989MB.
I'm probably going to give it till tomorrow. Not sure what else I can do.
Are there any error messages in the log file? (This is normally file datamodeler.log in folder datamodeler\datamodeler\log, unless you have set some other location on the Environment/Log page of the Preferences.)
Note that if you want to update the Java properties, the file to be updated is different for Data Modeler version 22.214.171.1243. The AddVMOption statements should be updated in the product.conf file rather than the datamodeler64.conf file. Assuming you're on Windows 7, you should normally find the product.conf file in folder C:\Users\<your user>\AppData\Roaming\Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler\126.96.36.1993.
