    I have couple of questions regarding asm

    Moh_boda

      what is the recommended OU for CRS, DATA and FRA disk groups?

      Where should I replicate the online logfiles and controlfile? Same disk group DATA or the duplicates should be placed in the FRA?

          Hi Moh_boda,

          separate disk groups for OCR/voting, DATA and FRA. at-least you should have 3 disk groups

          the important thing  here is 'separation of duty' among the disk groups.

          Where should I replicate the online logfiles and controlfile? Same disk group DATA or the duplicates should be placed in the FRA?

          you can use FRA. do not use same disk group DATA.

          your question have a lot of dependencies. one may not be able to give you 100% accurate answer.

          dependencies are:

          ASM level of redundancy, RAID architecture, performance vs redundancy,importance of data, SAN hardware,database version, os version

            hi experts,

            the OS is AIX 7.2, the database is 11.2.0.3

            i do have 3 different disk groups OCR, DATA and FRA.

            i Created the disk groups as follows;

            OCR normal redundancy - 1 AU - RAID 10 (3disk x 3GB)

            DATA normal redundancy - 4 AU - RAID 10 (8disk x 25GB)

            FRA external redundancy - 8 AU - RAID 5 (10disk x 20GB)

            I know raid 10 is the recommended for all disk groups but I don't have all the needed space.

            my queries are;

            -is the AU correct as per each disk group content?

            -given the fact that FRA is different in RAID and AU from DATA. should I keep the duplicated control file and online redo logs on DATA Instead of FRA? duplicating them to FRA is much safe, but slower!

            thanks teits and everyone

            regards,

            Moh

              Hi,

              Why not use external redundancy for DATA disgroup?

              External redundancy will save disk space and IO bandwidth.

              RAID 10 has provided you redundancy and a very good one with good speed.

              Large AU size increase performance. I think you sizing of AU will suffice for your need. Wild guess!

              So i will answer yes.

              DATA and FRA for redo log
