I am upgrading from 188.8.131.52 to 184.108.40.206 (WINDOWS 64 bit) using the [strongly] suggested out-of-place upgrade procedures, and I cannot find a clear and concise answer to this question:
Do I need to supply a different value for ORACLE_BASE? I know the software-only installation is to a new ORACLE_HOME, but the upgrade guide does not speak to ORACLE_BASE, and I cannot find anything about the ORACLE_BASE but various definitions of it. This is a critical (and large) database, and I want to be careful.
It really does not matter - you can install 220.127.116.11 in the same ORACLE_BASE (if 18.104.22.168 is installed at /u01/app/oracle/22.214.171.124, then you can install at /u01/app/oracle/126.96.36.199) or you can use a new ORACLE_BASE (e.g. /u02/app/oracle/188.8.131.52)
If using a new ORACLE_BASE, you will need to adjust any environment variables or registry keys referring to ORACLE_BASE accordingly
I’m also trying to upgrade my databases 11.2 0.3 to 184.108.40.206
using the recommended out-of-place method on windows.
Anyway, I couldn’t install 220.127.116.11 into a new oracle _base. I tried and the dbua forces you to use the
existing oracle_base. It says that “all oracle products must be under same base”.
If you crack the upgrade on windows, let me know:)
Oracle Database follow OFA standard for installations.
It is good to have same Oracle Base for all the oracle database version installed on a server. Follow below link for details.
