The example in the developer manual shows the insert statement needs to give ID, such as 1 as below, my questions is how do we maintain that ID unique? For first time insert, maybe I can control all the inserts using ID in order and unique, but with data adding and removing, it is hard to find an ID unique in the insert statement if it happens later on. Should that unique ID number be maintained internally in oracle instead of given every time externally?

That ID column is not necessary. You can get rid of that column if you want. We put that column there to
demonstrate it is possible to have additional columns in the same application table.
