For whatever reason, my IT department installed a 32-bit Win7 OS on a 64-bit capable laptop (HP ProBook 6460b).
Seems like it should be pretty simple to ASK THEM why they didn't install a 64-bit version doesn't it?
What's the least disruptive option / path of least resistance here?
That's for you to determine.
You can download the Java SDK here:
Have your IT dept install it if you want.
You should tell your IT dept you want a 64bit OS.
Then tell them you want to double your RAM.
Trust me on this one.
If they say no, then ask them to install 32 bit Java 7 on your machine, and you'll be good to go.
Thanks Jeff, appreciate it. Are you still game for coming over to DOT IT in Raleigh some time and demonstrate some of the cooler features of SQL Developer 4.0.1 to our DBA Team? Remember meeting you at the ECOUG in RTP a few years back and you'd mentioned that as a possibility.
Thanks Jeff, will do!
