    User226921 -Oracle

Earlier today I passed the 1Z0-497 exam required for the "Oracle Database 12c Certified Implementation Specialist " certification.

The following is a useful resources to prepare:

      Recommended Guided Learning Path:

      https://competencycenter.oracle.com/opncc/full_glp.cc?group_id=26704

As per the recommended guided learning path, all topics are covered in the referenced link in the Oracle documentations.

      Kind Regards,

          congratulations !

I need one suggestion to both of you.

I am just a 1.5 yrs exp oracle resource, have keen interest in doing DB work.

as of now I have core knowledge of Oracle SQL and PL/SQL

but going forward will it be sufficient for moving to Oracle Apps, ETL etc will be beneficial.

as of today the condition in the service based IT company is like they don't have oracle dev project

or if they have those are not of core DB requirement , they mostly related to Oracle Apps or something else but not to Oracle DB.

I was also planning for the next level of certification after I completed 1Z0-051 but am confused whether should go for DBA stream or PL/SQL developer stream or should try work on oracle Apps

          Thanks

          Jitendra

Well -- one of the rules of thumb I suggest in selecting a certification path is that when starting out with certification, you should go with what you know.  Using that rule, I'd suggest going for the PL/SQL OCP track -- 1Z0-144 and 1Z0-146.

That said -- another rule of thumb is to pursue the certifications that are applicable to the direction you are trying to take your career and that are required by the companies in your area.  If you employer (or desired employer) is primarily interested in Oracle Apps knowledge (and doesn't care about PL/SQL), then one or more apps certs may be a better direction to start with.

Of the two, I don't know enough about your specific situation to give a clear indication of which is the better option.  I would tend towards PL/SQL... but then I'm a PL/SQL programmer so I will admit that I'm not unbiased.

              Thanks for the response Matthew.

              Let me explain my situation.

as a fresher I joined company and trained on Oracle SQL and Oracle PL/SQL.

I got interest in this stream(Core DB) and I continued the interest and increasing my knowledge bar in SQL and PL/SQL everyday.

but as I said there are very few project(Dev Project) are running on this technology in my comp, so I am worried which side I should go, as per the interest I should go towards PL/SQL developer stream. but I don't have much idea what are all career growth option for this tech as some of my senior suggest that SQL and PL/SQL becomes mandatory for all the Oracle DB stream so If U have anything extra that will be beneficial I agree to this comment but I also don't believe in knowing multiple technology and don't have command on one of them.

current role in comp is not at all dealing with DB work but as my aspiration towards DB forcing me to do something in DB.

I also have good hand-on exp on core java and also have one OCP.

I am unable to decide if i continue with db stream also which way I should prefer.

and U said in the second point that go where your work leading you to, but as i said it has nothing to do with Oracle DB or java.

              Thanks

              Jitendra

Well -- while I consider myself a 'Developer/DBA', better than 95% of my time over the past fifteen years has been my development activities with SQL and PL/SQL.  I'm currently in a very senior position at the company I work for. As such, that path certainly *can* lead to career advancement.  That said, whether a person's career advances generally depends mostly upon the person.

I  will not tell you  that picking 'X' certification will maximize your career growth. I could, but the statement would be meaningless. There are too many variables involved for me (or anyone) to be able to make such a statement with any degree of certainty.

Right now, you can tell prospective employers that you were trained in SQL and PL/SQL and have worked in it for a year and a half.  If you spend three months each studying for (and presumably passing) the 1Z0-144 and 1Z0-146 exams, then in six months you can tell an employer that you have worked with SQL and PL/SQL for two years and are an Oracle Advanced PL/SQL Developer Certified Professional. The certification will help to validate the job experience and the job experience does the same for the certification. It increases your credentials as an Oracle professional.  Whether it will lead to job advancement... I can't say.

Thanks so much for your sincere suggestion.

I will decide the path and will move forwards accordingly.
