    Installing APEX latest version

    Arif Khadas

      Dear All,

      I am trying to install APEX latest version :

      Connected to:

      Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.5.0 - Production

      With the Partitioning, OLAP, Data Mining and Real Application Testing options

      SQL> SELECT comp_name, version, status FROM dba_registry WHERE comp_id='APEX';

      COMP_NAME                        VERSION       STATUS

      ----------------------------------------     ----------------      -----------

      Oracle Application Express     4.2.5.00.08      VALID

      I am using Oracle Application Express Listener which Oracle Rest Data Services as Listener.

      I have configured and installed Oracle Rest Data Services.

      When I Use localhost:8080\pls\apex_admin then I get

      Authentication Required:The server http:\\localhost:8080 requires a username and password. The Server says XDB.

      Also I have noticed that Account Status of ANONYMOUS, XDB, APEX_040200 and FLOWS_FILES is EXPIRED.

      Does this has anything to do with the problem ?

      I even used

      LTER USER anonymous ACCOUNT UNLOCK;

      ALTER USER xdb ACCOUNT UNLOCK;

      ALTER USER apex_public_user ACCOUNT UNLOCK;

      ALTER USER flows_files ACCOUNT UNLOCK;

      even after this this the status is EXPIRED.

      Please help.

      Thanks & Regards

      Arif Khadas

          Hi Arif,

          Your xml db server is probably listening on port 8080.

          check this with:

          select dbms_xdb.gethttpport as "HTTP-Port" from dual

          You can disable it like this:

          begin
          dbms_xdb.sethttpport('0');
          end;

          If this not works set the original port number back with the same procedure.

          Regards,

          Kees Vlek

            Hi Kees Vlek,

            Thanks for replying.

            Your xml db server is probably listening on port 8080.

            check this with:

            1. select dbms_xdb.gethttpport as "HTTP-Port" from dual

            SQL> select dbms_xdb.gethttpport as "HTTP-Port" from dual

              2  /

            HTTP-Port

            ----------

                  8080

            You can disable it like this:

            1. begin
            2. dbms_xdb.sethttpport('0');
            3. end

            SQL> EXEC DBMS_XDB.SETHTTPPORT(0);

            PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.

            Once I do this I do not get anything at all "Oops! Google Chrome could not connect to macmsvm:8080"

            So after disbaling the port what is the URL that I should use to login.

            So I will reset the Port to 8080.

              Hi Arif,

              After the change you might need to restart the apex listener. You should connect at the port you setup in the apex listener.

              Regards,

                Hi Arif,

                What Java EE Application Server are you using?

                  Dear Kees Vlek,

                  Thanks for your response once again.

                  After the change you might need to restart the apex listener. You should connect at the port you setup in the apex listener.

                  I have used 8080 as the port in apex listener.

                  Also I am installing APEX on Windows 7 as a Standalone installation.

                  How can I restart the apex listener or for that matter verify that APEX Listener has been properly installed and configured.

                  Thanks and Regards

                    Hi Arif,

                    Just a warning, standalone mode is not for production deployments. See the message in the configuration file:

                    Standalone mode is suitable for development use only, and is not supported for use in production deployments. Use a supported Java EE application server for production deployments.

                    See here Installing Oracle REST Data Services for more info about setting-up stand alone mode.

                    You could try to use the --ajp-port parameter and access apex on that port.

                    Regards,

                    Kees Vlek

                      Arif Khadas

                      Thanks Vleek. I am an Oracle Developer and I am using a Stand alone Installation for development purpose.

                      You could try to use the --ajp-port parameter and access apex on that port.

                           As I said I am a Developer so please can you elaborate on this.

                      I had followed all the steps from the APEX Installation Guide and the link provided by you for Oracle Rest Data Services Installation and Configuration.

                      I am thinking of doing a fresh installation, will post each step that I do here so that you might be able to help me easily.

                      Thanks and Regards

                        Hi Arif,

                        You said, "I am using Oracle Application Express Listener which Oracle Rest Data Services as Listener.".

                        Have you you followed the configuration steps for the Oracle Rest Data Service as described here  Installing Oracle REST Data Services? Here is also the explanation about the ajp-port parameter.

                        If you do a fresh install then test, after installing Apex, if it is working with the EPG set-up. If you have that working go on with the Oracle Rest Data Services.

                        Regards,

                        Kees Vlek

                          Thanks Kees Vlek for all your support.

                          I had not tested with EPG set up after isntalling APEX the last time, this time I will do that.

                          I am doing pre-installation tasks, as I carry out the process I will post my steps here, please keep an eye if possible.

                            Authentication Required:The server http:\\localhost:8080 requires a username and password. The Server says XDB.

                            Is this because of the error in this step.

                            Am I executing this step with wrong parameters, is it that instead of c:\TEMP I need to use the location where apex files exists that is c:\apex

                                I did the following as it requires the path where apex directory is located, which was successful:

                                SQL> @apex_epg_config.sql C:\

                                PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.

                                . Loading images directory: C:\/apex/images

                                Directory created.

                                But still my APEX login page does not appear.
