    Stopping standby database

I am using Oracle 12c learning data guard. I have setup a primary and standby database in a data guard broker configuration.

I want to  stop standby database for whatever reason. I noticed that when standby is down. In the alert  log of primary database, I see that a tns connection is being made probably by dg broker to standby database. I changed the state of transport-mode to off so nothing will be sent to standby database but I still see that tns connection is being made. What is needed to stop tns connection message , do I have to remove standby database from the data guard configuration.. Anything else to be done.
