    T4-1 Solaris 10 OS installation problem.

      Hello everyone.

       

      I'm Pradip working as a Solaris system admin. Our organisation recently perches 3 new Sparc T4-1 servers. As a system admin I have to ready this servers for users, but when I"m in mid way in installation of Solaris 10 in this server I'm facing sum problem. And the problem is as below.

       

      When I reach to select disk for partition, number 1 HDD(Server has 300Gb 4 HDD ) is showing 0 M partition & when I select it. It's giving me error that....

       

      disk (c0t5000CCA05414EBC4d0) cannot be used to install solaris software.

       

      This disk drive does not have a valid label. If you want to use this disk for the install, exit the Solaris Interactive command line to label  the disk, and type  'install-solaris'  to restart the installation program.

       

      I don't understand that how I use format command in this system that does not have OS. & what partition I have to label.

       

      Plz suggest I'm in big trouble.

          The steps below should help you. Let us know if you have any problems.

          This process is easier in Solaris 11. Finally!

          1. Shut down the system.

          2. If you are booting from a Solaris 10 installation CD, use this command:

          ok boot cdrom -s

           

          3. At the shell prompt, enter the format utility:

           

          # format -e

           

          A. Select the disk for installation:

          Specify disk (enter its number): 0

          selecting c1t0d0

          [disk formatted]

          B. Apply the label:

          format> label

          [0] SMI Label

          [1] EFI Label

          Specify Label type[1]: 0

          C. Display the default partition table:

          format> partition

          format> print

           

          D. Ensure that all the disk space in partition (slice) 0.

          It might look something like this, but your newer disk should be much larger:

          Current partition table (default):

          Total disk cylinders available: 24620 + 2 (reserved cylinders)

           

          Part      Tag    Flag     Cylinders         Size            Blocks

            0       root    wm       0 -    90      128.37MB    (91/0/0)      262899

          E. Move all the disk space to partition (slice) 0.

          Select partitioning base:

                  0. Current partition table (default)

                  1. All Free Hog

          Choose base (enter number) [0]? 1

          F. Restart the installer

          # install-solaris
