Source database is on RHEL5 and Oracle 188.8.131.52
Target database is on RHEL6 and Oracle 184.108.40.206.
I tried to start the startup the database with upgrade option but i am getting media recovery error.
SQL> startup upgrade;
ORACLE instance started.

ORA-01113: file 1 needs media recovery

It would be great if you can help me to fix the issue.

Are you restoring a RMAN backup to a higher database version ? In that case, you will need to perform an upgrade before you can open the database. Pl see MOS Doc 790559.1
Thanks Srini, I was trying to use clone the database using active database feature. Let me try try other ways if this does not work.
