go to www.puschitz.com and review the notes for installing 10g on AS 4.0. I would guess you don't have some required packages installed. I just installed 10g on AS 4.0 with absolutely no problems. Very clean install for me.
I have encountered the exact error condition. I'm a newbie attempting to self-teach Oracle and Linux. I'm installing 10g rel 2 on Fedora Core 4. I have used the instructions from Puschitz, as well as from Tim Hall (see earlier thread) multiple times. The OUI fails in the same place (Oracle Net Config Asst) each time with the error message in the above reply. I'm 99.99% sure I have all the required rpm's in place.
I'm having this same problem on Fedora 8. I patched to 10.2.0.4 and the error is slightly shorter:
Oracle Net Services Configuration:
# An unexpected error has been detected by HotSpot Virtual Machine:
# SIGSEGV (0xb) at pc=0x004f0ab3, pid=7116, tid=3086534864

Ah. Adding my hostname in /etc/hosts under the 127.0.0.1 line or having it in DNS fixes the problem. Obviously on a laptop I might not always be in DNS so adding it as another localhost entry seems to be the ticket. Thanks!
