ASM requires a mounted instance which is separate & distinct from any database created by DBCA.
ASM is NOT required to have an operational Oracle database.
Why are adding the complication of ASM to having a standalone Oracle database?
Thats the same thing i wanted to ask ? why ASM is so much complicated. i simply created listener from netmgr and checked srvctl status ASM which SHOWS ASM status is running despite of simply doing that it always become complicated. Besides if it is not complicated then why does entering password for ASMSNMP gives an complication.
