Thank you very much for taking time and replying back to me. Really appreciate your time.
This OBIEE - BI reporting tool has lots of limitation. The BI Publisher has more choices. I can do the same in analysis which is a part of OBIEE.
I did mentioned OBIEE - BI and I am in the OBIEE forum and not BI.
Wow. Read this again. And then smile like I just did. What do you think "BI" stands for?
"OBIEE" = Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition
"BI" = Business Intelligence
Now "BIP" on the other hand means "Business Intelligence Publisher". So if you are having issues with product names and being precise about it we're also here to help you with that. If on the other hand you just want to be imprecise and rant if you're getting called out on it...that's another issue.
A BI Publisher "Report" is an object type in the integrated web catalog. An OBIEE "Analysis" is an object type in the integrated web catalog.
Many people use these terms extremely vague and interchangeably which causes problems in many threads. So yes my response was geared towards clearing things up and only after several posts Sherry himself went "ok, so it looks like you are using BI publisher reporting." Simply because you were not being precise. Simple.
You got the answer to your needs by Sherry George above but as you seem a bit confused on what tool you are using I guess it's worth replacing pieces correctly in their context (as it will make things easier both for you asking things or others understanding what you ask).
In OBIEE you can design create report using the Analysis(pick up and choose the column from the Presentation Layer)
and also you can write SQL statements using JDBC connections. Here you had to attach your own template.
Once template and the sql is ready, then you can create hyperlinks. I was having issues if I jump from Summary report to Detail report.
That's not totally true and bits are missing ...
So OBIEE is a set of tools in a way: Answers, VA (or DV), BIP
The all share some pieces like data (the RPD model) and security and then have their own extra bits.
What you call Analysis is actually Answers, it hasn't a real name as it is what people identify OBIEE with in general.
As others said you are actually using BIP (BI Publisher), if you look at the pages when you create one of your reports you will see they are just frames pointing to /xmlpserver links which is where BIP is.
And define BIP as "you can write SQL statements using JDBC connections" is missing quite a lot of what BIP is and can do: MDX against multidimensional sources, use Answers as base for reports etc.
So definitely worth to review the architecture of the tool you are using to better understand what you actually have in front of view.
For the comments about Christian's quality or knowledge ... send a mail to Mayor Jay Tibshraeny, he will definitely do something for it (maybe get Christian in to deliver a training about the architecture of the tool?).
As you said you got your answer can you please close the thread? For now it's still This question is Not Answered.. Mark as required and close it so it can really be useful to other users as with 2 pages nobody will read it completely ...
Was hoping to stay out of this. Completely agree with Christian. People use these terms vaguely and you take guesses because you have seen it before,
user630977 Calm down, it may be your fourth post, but that doesn't mean anything. Christian is one of the best, take a tour of the forum and you would see how many people he has helped with his expertise. You should definitely read the community FAQs. Criticisms, take it on the chin and move on and trust me, you would definitely appreciate him and others further down the road.
Thank you Sherry. I wish I could "Like" this 1000 times.
Thanks for the clarification.
How do close the thread. ? Can you please guide me. ?

Well ... good question
Based on https://community.oracle.com/docs/DOC-891037#jive_content_id_1322_Helpful_and_Correct_ you are supposed to see a link/button below each reply in the thread. So if you go where you have the one from Sherry George which represent the correct answer you click on that button/link and so his reply will be displayed as well on the top right after the question (so no need to really read the thread). But I must admit it's some time I didn't open a thread, so not sure if it's always visible or you must find it somewhere else.
Please accept my sincerely apology. I could have handled the situation much better.
