Where do you see these options and what is your OS version/distribution?
Under Oracle Linux, where you posted, I would simply do, for example:
# parted -s /dev/sdb mklabel msdos mkpart primary 1 -- -1
Then use /dev/sdb1 for ASM or ASMLib. You should not have more than 1 partition per LUN under ASM.
I'm using OL 7.3. with AFD, not ASMLib, and 12.2 GI. If you create a partition for ASM with fdisk you will not found a matching partition type (8e Linux LVM...) for an ASM device. So my question was, if there is any recommandation from Oracle for a partition type. I did not found it.
