New versions of NetworkManager do not work

    Karl F.

      Hi,

Since I installed the version 1.10.2-13 of NetworkManger I cannot start my network.

Here are the error logs :

      NetworkManager[31994]: <warn>  [1529604114.4607] platform-linux: do-add-ip4-address[2: Y.Y.Y.Y/24]: failure 22 (Argument invalide)

      NetworkManager[31994]: <warn>  [1529604114.4608] platform: route-sync: failure to add IPv4 route: 0.0.0.0/0 via X.X.X.X dev 2 metric 100 mss 0 rt-src user: Le réseau n'est pas accessible (101); is the gateway directly reachable?

      systemd[1]: network.service: control process exited, code=exited status=1

systemd[1]: Failed to start LSB: Bring up/down networking.

systemd[1]: Unit network.service entered failed state.

      systemd[1]: network.service failed.

...where Y.Y.Y.Y is the IP address of the server, and X.X.X.X is the gateway.

The latest version 1.10.2-14 didn't correct the problem neither.

If I downgrade to the version 1.8.0-11 of NetworkManager everything work well.

Some sugguest to disable NetworkManager service and only use Network service. But it's only a workaround; NetworkManger should work like it does with the oldest versions.

      Thanks for your help.

You're getting an "Invalid Argument" error, so without telling us what the IP address it's trying to assign is, it's difficult to determine if the fault is actually with NetworkManager or if previous versions allowed an invalid configuration to be enabled while the latest version fixed that.

Can you see the devices with nmcli? Are you able to enable DHCP and see if the device comes up (even if it doesn't get an IP address from the network)? We need to determine if the problem is with the hardware no longer being seen by NetworkManager, the configuration being invalid, or a bug in NM itself.

I don't want to publish the IP address of an active server on a forum; but be assured that the IP address and gateway are the ones I supplied in NetworkManger and are good.

I can see the devices with nmcli whether it is with a fixed IP or with DHCP.

The problem is that I get a functional connection.

nmcli return the state "disconnected" for the interface and say there is "1 available connection"

              Dude!

I suggest you try the following:

              Get a list of UUIDs:

              # nmcli con show

Reconnect an interface marked as disconnected:

              # nmcli con up uuid <uuid>

Then check /var/log/messages for any hints or problems reported.

                Dude!

0 rt-src user: Le réseau n'est pas accessible (101); is the gateway directly reachable?

The actual failure of NetworkManager in your case is perhaps related to the gateway. Is the gateway on the same subnet than the interface?

It's pretty much standard these days that an OS automatically chooses the best available network interface, and for example automatically switches between Wifi and a wired connection, but NetworkManager unfortunately appears to have some history of issues. Personally, I would disable the service.

                  Karl F.

Yes the gateway is on the same subnet than the interface.

It's a server without Wifi interface. Only wired ethernet interface.

If I try "nmcli con up uuid <the uuid of the network card>", I get:

Error: Connection activation failed: IP configuration could not be reserved (no available address, timeout, etc.).

...and the "/var/log/messages" give me same error message as previously:

                  NetworkManager[31994]: <warn>  [1529604114.4607] platform-linux: do-add-ip4-address[2: Y.Y.Y.Y/24]: failure 22 (Argument invalide)

                  NetworkManager[31994]: <warn>  [1529604114.4608] platform: route-sync: failure to add IPv4 route: 0.0.0.0/0 via X.X.X.X dev 2 metric 100 mss 0 rt-src user: Le réseau n'est pas accessible (101); is the gateway directly reachable?

I'm not sure if it's exactly the same situation, but somme people have problems with NetworkManger and get the same error messages. See the following thread:

Have you tried NetworkManager-1.10.2-16. Looks like it was released on Jun 15th.

                      Thank you for the info.

I just tried with version 1.10.2-16 and the problem is still there.

Looking the replies. The disconnected is interesting. I would try a nmcli d connect enp3s0f0.

Can you post your 'nmcli d' and 'nmcli c show'?

                            Hi,

I do have exactly the same issues.

Is this going to be fixed?

What kernel are you running?  Also, are you using DHCP? I ask because the release notes for 7u4 talk about networkmanager issues with dhcp and UEKR3. Might try UEKR4.

I'm running on kernel UEK 3.8.13-118.21.1.

I do not use DHCP but a fixed IP address.

If you have Oracle Linux support, please log an SR. That's the fastest way to get it fixed.
