Thank you !!
I will follow this blog.
I get your feedback, thank you.
So I have a specifi question about, let say a doubt, if I import the metadata, it will replace (entirely) my existing metadata, or just insert/update this later ?
Thank you !
any new members will be inserted, any existing will be updated, I think that deletions are not deleted from memory.... and all of this happens before the data load itself - and as I said frequently causes a restructure of the DBs...
No problem - glad to help.
Are you sure please, that it won't delete everything, and replace it by the new Essbase Data ?
The essbase Data export (via LCM) contains :
* Files .pag (Data)
* Files *ind (Index)
* File .esm
* File .pmg
* File *olt (Outiline)
I guess that if I import the artifact, it will replace everything, without taking in account the gap. Am I right ?
it terms of data, yes it will clear the cube and reload from your export.
In terms of metadata (dimension members) I have seen that it does not remove members that exist in the target but not in the source.
So if in your target (say) you have; -
Long term Plan 24000
And in your source you have; -
Long term Plan 50000
Then the result would be
Long term Plan 50000
If you wanted to (say) port across the Budget and Long Term plan without losing the forecast figures then either you could; -
a. write a rule to export your forecast data, refresh source from target, use data management or similar to reload your forecast data
b. Export your source data, use data management or similar to load your source data to target
Hope this clarifies
SO are you sure that it won't erase and replace ? it's my unique doubt sorry !
If it is data then it will be entirely overwritten.
If it is members then yes, I am certain that they will still be there after your export - and equally sure they will have no balance data if they did before if they do not have an equivalent in the source.
But, if you are really paranoid on this then export your metadata, import, check and if I am wrong then you can put your deleted members back by reloading the dimensions in question.
Personally I have daily metadata exports as well as full back up and selective data exports - your contingency planning is pointless until the day it saves your job :-)
Thank you Robert, I trust you !
So if i understand correctly, if I import the new metadata, it will merde both source and target outlines?
Yes, I have never seen it delete members in the outline.
Do you ever seen this kinda error please ?

it looks like you have a line which has unpopulated data where there should be metadata.
Can you parse your source file out in excel or similar and check if it is missing any data?
Btw - you should really open a new question for this, it makes the forum easier to use for everyone...
