I didn't have a chance to look at you trace file before now.
Your problems are maybe due to problems in your sqlnet.ora and/or tnsnames.ora file.
[28-DEC-2006 10:13:46:749] Attempted load of system pfile source /Library/instantclient10_1/sqlnet.ora
[28-DEC-2006 10:13:46:749] Load contained errors
[28-DEC-2006 10:13:46:749] Error stack follows: NL-00422: Message 422 not found; No message file for product=network, facility=NL
According to oerr, NL-00422 means "premature end of file".
- Could you post the entire sqlnet.ora file?
- Are there any non-printable characters, like Ctrl-M or similar, in sqlnet.ora or tnsnames.ora?
Here's the contents of my sqlnet.ora file:
NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH= (TNSNAMES, HOSTNAME)
As of now, I've renamed this file and I'm no longer using it. Do you have to have this in order the the tnsnames.ora file to work? I'm able to use the easy syntax. ORCL = "CentOSServ5:1521/orcl" but not the long syntax.
According to http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/network.102/b14213/sqlnet.htm#sthref402 you do not need sqlnet.ora to use tnsnames.ora, because the default value of NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH is (tnsnames, onames, hostname).
It could be that the last line (which is now commented out, but probably wasn't when you took the trace) is responsible for the error message.
Since you have found a way that works for you, I guess there's not much use trying to investigate what was wrong...
