        Are "dbhome" in PATH? Has ORACLE_SID an entry in /etc/oratab?

            No problem at all. I assume you have
            1) oraenv and dbhome in /usr/local/bin
            2) PATH contains /usr/local/bin
            3) have a line in your /etc/oratab containing '*:/your/oracle/home/directory:N'

            if that is true, from bash command line do
            unset ORACLE_SID
            ORAENV_ASK=NO
            . oraenv
            relink all
            unset ORAENV_ASK
            =================
            don't forget about the dot in '. oraenv'; the dot is crucial.

              Thanks for the quick response, however I still could not startup oracle.

              I am trying to install oracle 9i for mac os ( Tiger ) , after DBCreate when I try to do
              sqlplus "/ as sysdba" , i get these following errors:
              ===========
              SQL*Plus: Release 9.2.0.1.0 - Developer's Release on Sat Mar 4 02:50:32 2006

              ERROR:
              ORA-12547: TNS:lost contact
              =====================

              I tried to run "relink all", however the OS could not find relink.
              -bash: relink: command not found

              Where should I expect to find relink. Is it a part of the Oracle installation software ?

              Also, I do not have the file /etc/oratab ? Do I need to create this file manually or this should have been created as a part of the installation ?

              Incase, I have back out and reinstall, just deleting the entire orahome be sufficient.

              I guess I am asking too many questions but I will really appreciate if you take some time to answer or suggest me some alternative.

              Thanks
              SS

                Forget about 9i on Tiger. It just won't work. Sorry. Making 10g run on Tiger is not straightforward, 9i would be magic.
                relink would be in $ORACLE_HOME/bin/
                /etc/oratab can be created manually, no problem. It should contain lines with '{ORACLE_SID}:{ORACLE_HOME}:{Yes_or_NO}' where the Y or N is for autostart or not autostart by dbstart.
                with symbolic links you can map you ORACLE_HOME/lib to /Users/oracle/Source/9ir2/orahome/lib but don't expect this to work.

                  Hi, I see you are pretty good on this. Well I managed to install Oracle 10g 10.1.0.3 in Mac OS X Server 10.4.4 (with the tweaks needed for the libnnz10.dylib), everything is working smoothly, but afte a week, when the dba try connect to the SQLplus, he gets the following error:

                  Any ideas?

                  Thanx

                    You must set the ORACLE_HOME to the db_1 directory.
