How Store and Enlarge Images In APEX

    Ribhi
      Hi,

Currently I'm developing an application where I need to store a lot of images in the database . I have been looking at http://dgielis.blogspot.com/2007/01/dgt-explained-1-bis-thumbnail-expander.html and www.dgtournament.com. I like the cool feature on the website that allows you to enlarge the images without having to use other pages/windows.

      Does anyone implemented this feature?

      I was not sure about
      1. The structure of the table where I need store my images
      2. How to upload and display images on the screen (in a report)
      3. How to control the size of uploaded image since I have different image sizes

      Regards,

      Ribhi

          Hi,

I use the same solution on one of my personal websites, http://www.genghisvinyl.co.uk.

My table includes two blob columns, one to store the thumbnail image and one to store the large image. Before uploading my images to the database I resized them so the thumbnail and large images were a consistent size.

          Hope this helps,

          Andrew.

            Hi Andrew,

Thank you for your prompt response. I was looking at your site http://www.genghisvinyl.co.uk/pls/apex/f?p=356:2:3419442995719622::NO:::

This is exactly what I'm hopping to do in my application. Do you have an example puplished where i can look at the source code.!

            Thanks
            Ribhi

              Hi Ribhi,

Sorry, I don't have an example where you can view the source code. I pretty much followed Dimitri's instructions, with a few tweaks to suit my needs.

Thanks Andrew. I followed Dimitri's instructions, It's not working. It seems that I'm missing something.

                  Hi Ribhi,

One thing I've noticed, is the instructions say to "copy the highslide directory to your /i/ directory". However, in step 2, the javascript src and graphicsDir are referred to as "/highslide/highslide.js" and "/highslide/graphics/".

I think the paths should be "#IMAGE_PREFIX#highslide/highslide.js" and "#IMAGE_PREFIX#highslide/graphics/".

Also, if your app uses the DAD for authentication, you'll need to grant EXECUTE priviledges to PUBLIC on the show image procedures.

                  Hope this helps.

                  Andrew

                    Hi Andrew,

You may want to have a look at Lucy's comment on my blog:
