Is it possible to partition (old) data that already exists in the table (for example, last year's data), or is it only possible to partition new data (next year's data)?
If yes, Can someone give me some examples (SQL scripts) on how to partition a table (per month) to implement ILM on a table which already exists and has millions of rows of data (therefore, not with the Create Table statement)?
Under the setup tab of the ILM Assistant, you can get partitioning advice. In addition, the ILM Assistant can generate a SQL script to partition your table for you. To do this, first set up your storage tiers and lifecycle definitions. Then assign your table to the lifecycle. At that point the ILM Assistant will give you advice on partitioning your table and can generate the script.
