Guys, I had the same problem in Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES release 4 (Nahant Update 6) with Oracle 10.2.0.1 64 bits installation.

I managed to sort this out after installing a lot of rpms. I will try to post a compile list of mandatory rpms.

The installer uses the 32 bit, and the 32 bit version of libXp.so.6. The error message states it found the 64 bit version.

Install the 32 bit version using the following command:

                    yum install libXp.i386

                      • 69. Re: libXp.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
                        506787
The errormessages says : libawt.so: libXt.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

You need the libXt.so.6 library, 32 bit.

this library can be installed using:

                        yum install libXt.i386

The installation directory of the installer-jre is not removed if something goes wrong. This means you can figure out the dependencies of the libawt.so:

                        ldd /tmp/OraInstall2008-11-25_12-59-24PM/jre/1.4.2/lib/i386/libawt.so

you can see the package to which the libraries are belonging with:

                        yum provides libXext
                        ..etc.

please mind the libjava.so is delivered with the jre, thus not part of the operating system libraries.

In addition to my previous list of rpms, I would like to add metalink note which is very important.

The install process of 64-bit 10.2.0.1 on RHEL 4 x86_64 gives an error stating that the file "libXp.so.6" is missing. But, it is there, located at /usr/X11R6/lib64/libXp.so.6. The problem in this case is that the 32-bit architecture file is also required in /usr/X11R6/lib/libXp.so.6, and is missing. Although the RPM that provides this file in the 64-bit architecture (xorg-x11-depreciated-libs-6.8.2-1.EL.13.6.x86_64.rpm) is present, the RPM that provides this file in the 32-bit architecture (xorg-x11-depreciated-libs-6.8.2-1.EL.13.6.i386.rpm) is absent. Since both of these RPMs are normally installed during a "default-RPMs" installation, this proves that a that a "default installation" of RHEL is missing

your computer is telling you you've got the wrong libXp installed:
                                libawt.so: libXp.so.6: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64
the installer needs the 32-bits version of libXp, even when installing the 64 version!
