    dear akaimale,

I have set all of the environment variables that you
suggested, but now I get the error:

    001+ Warning: ocilogon(): ORA-01017: invalid
    username/password; logon denied in
    /Users/username/Downloads/php-5.2.6RC5/ext/oci8/tests/
    connect.inc on line 17
php is able to talk to a database server, but either username or password is wrong for this particular server.
I am able to login successfully with sqlplus from the
command line. I even have an alias calling the same
variables when i login with sqlplus, but for some
reason the tests still have a problem connecting.
By aliasing you mean, you have tried 'sqlplus $PHP_OCI8_TEST_USER/$PHP_OCI8_TEST_PASS' right ? if not try that. Please note that if you are connecting to 11g database it has case sensitive password checking.

If that works all the variables other than PHP_OCI8_TEST_DB are proper. so to make sure PHP_OCI8_TEST_DB is proper

    export TWO_TASK=$PHP_OCI8_TEST_DB;sqlplus $PHP_OCI8_TEST_USER/$PHP_OCI8_TEST_PASS ,

If the above connects to the database , then this should be a php layer issue.

PS: i have tested these with 5.2.5 php, so not sure if some OCI test settings has changed in 5.2.6 php.

This is the alias I have:

    alias oracle='sqlplus $ORACLE_LOGON'

running `oracle` at the command line logs in properly.

    I tried:
    sqlplus $PHP_OCI8_TEST_USER/$PHP_OCI8_TEST_PASS

    and this did not work.

The only difference that I can see between $ORACLE_LOGON and $PHP_OCI8_TEST_USER/$PHP_OCI8_TEST_PASS is that $ORACLE_LOGON has @sid after the username/password

    so I tried:

    sqlplus $PHP_OCI8_TEST_PASS/$PHP_OCI8_TEST_USER@$TWO_TASK

    and that still didn't work.

    I am very confused now

I figured out the error. I was declaring the variable PHP_OCI8_USER but calling the variable PHP_OCI8_TEST_USER

I'd be using Oracle client if available for the Mac--i'd even take the DB. Oracle, shame on you.

So... Larry did get the client out. I have been running it on my Macbook Pro for some time now. You don't need to fake anything out. Thank you Oracle :).
