Hi,

I want to clone my exacting oracle apps 11i into another box.

Bellow, I am describing current setup:

OS: Solaris 9
Application Version: 11.5.7
Database version: 8.1.7
Single Node Installation on Sun Cluster (Active / Passive Mode)
Node 1 Host name: orafin1 (10.1.1.33)
Node 2 Host Name: orafin2 (10.1.1.34)
Virtual Host Name: orafin (10.1.1.35)

Now we want to clone exiting apps on another sun box on bellow setup:

OS: Solaris 10 (64 Bit)
Stand Alone cloning with out Sun Cluster.

Please suggest me , solution about above scenarios.

Thanks

    Anup,

Is your instance AutoConfig enabled? If not, then Rapid Clone cannot be used here (I also believe that Oracle8i database is not supported with Rapid Clone).

Note: 216664.1 - FAQ: Cloning Oracle Applications Release 11i
    https://metalink2.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/ml2_documents.showDocument?p_database_id=NOT&p_id=216664.1

You need to go with the manual cloning (adclone.pl) method (which is no longer available on Metalink -- Note: 135792.1). If you need a copy, please let me know and I shall send you the document.

    Hussein

    Thanks Hussein,

    AutoConfig is not enabling.

Actually we don’t want to do anything on source system because production system is very critical. Client also not allow me to do anything on prod instance other then backup.

    Please suggest.

    Hi,

Even if you go with manual cloning, you still need to apply a patch on the source instance (Patch 2115451 - PERL SCRIPTS TO ENABLE CLONING APPLTOP AND DATABASE). So, if both Rapid Clone and adclone.pl (manual clone) cannot be used here, I believe there is no direct way to clone this instance.

Once possible way would be installing the same application/database release on the target node(s), export/import the database, then apply the patches which were applied on the source instance since the time of the application on the target application.

    Hussein

    Ok…. Hussein.
Some idea in my mind. I don’t know I am right or wrong. Please suggest.

    Bellow I am describing:

    1. Create same file system (Mount point) as a source system on the “new box (Target)” Most Important – Host Name, Domain Name and IP Address must be same as source system (virtual host and IP – orafin and 10.1.1.35)
    2. Copy entire file system (APPL_TOP, COMMN_TOP, ORACLE_HOME, IAS ORACLE_HOME) to target system.
    3. Start all services on target system.
    4. Enable Rapid Clone Feature on target system (Note: 230672.1)
    5. Execute pre clone scripts on target system
    6. If successfully execute. Change the HOST NAME, DOMAIN NAME and IP ADDRESS of target system
    7. Execute the post clone scripts.
    8. Start the all the services

    Anup,

If you can manage to have a host on a different VLAN with the same hostname, domain name, and IP Address then the above steps should work. You will also need to follow the steps in the following documents when changing the hostname/domain name/IP Address.

Note: 338003.1 - How to change the hostname and/or port of the Database Tier using AutoConfig
    https://metalink2.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/ml2_documents.showDocument?p_database_id=NOT&p_id=338003.1

Note: 341322.1 - How to change the hostname of an Applications Tier using AutoConfig
    https://metalink2.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/ml2_documents.showDocument?p_database_id=NOT&p_id=341322.1

    Great Hussein.
Means I am going in right way.
Yes we can manage Different VLAN.
One more doubts …. What hostname and IP should put on Target System . I think we should put virtual host name and IP na which is (ORAFIN and 10.1.1.35) because exiting apps configure with virtual hostname and ip.

    Please suggest.

    Thanks

    Anup,

If you want to use the follow the copy/restore procedure, then your target application/database tiers hostname and IP Address should match what you have on the source application/database tiers.

but we are not using sun cluster on target node.

    I am geiving you details:

Node 1 (Which is Active presentally)

    Host Name : ORAFIN1
    IP : 10.1.1.33

Node 2 (Which is INACTIVE , presentall DOWN)

    Host Name: ORAFIN2
    IP: 10.1.1.34

Virtual Ip and hostname assign in between is ORAFIN , 10.1.1.35

Please suggest what IP and HOSTNAME, i will assign on new target box????

    Thanks

    Hi,
but we are not using sun cluster on target node.
Sorry, I did not pay attention to this.
Please suggest what IP and HOSTNAME, i will assign on new target box????
If using the physical IP Address only on the target nodes is not sufficient, I believe it is possible to use a virtual hostname (since Cluster is not configured on the target nodes). Log a SR, and confirm this with Oracle support (or you may contact your hardware vendor for such details).

    Hussein

    No any update form Metalink.
I have Checked Hostname, port name values form FND_Profile_options_values tables and Context File (XML file) on Apps File system .
We fount value HOSTNAME is ORAFILE and IP is 10.1.1.35
Means Apps configure with Virtual ip and host name.
I think if we put both on Target system.
We can achieve our goal which is we explain above.

    Please suggest.

    Thanks

    Anup,

As stated above, if you can use the virtual hostname on the target node, then go ahead with your suggested steps. Otherwise, wait for Oracle support feedback.

    Dear All,
One of my previous apps dba suggested me how to do manuall cloning, I have 11.5.10.2 but it is upgraded from 11.5.9, though it is autoconfig enabled but rapid clone has errors and I dont want to touch the Source Production system, my steps will be like this , please correct me if I am wrong.

    1. Copy dbTier - rdbms home to target system
if (hot backup use rman backup)
    2. copy appsTier to Target system

    On Target System.
    3. set ORACLE_SID, ORACLE_HOME
    run rman target /
    restore controlfile
mount the database and restore database and recover.
    alter database open resetlogs
    alter tablespace temp add datafile
    shutdown immediate;
    startup.
    4. connect apps/apps
    exec fnd_conc_clone.setup_clean;
    commit;
    exit;
    5. change dbTier context file
change the host name to Target hostname
    run autoconfig :
    cd /u2/oracle/proddb/9.2.0/appsutil/bin
    adconfig.sh contextfile=conext_file appspass=apps

    6. run autoconfig on appsTier
    cd /u2/oracle/prodappl/ad/11.5.0/bin
    adconfig.sh contextfile=context_file appspass=apps
