You are correct, we don't have a migration workbench plugin for Db2 v8 either in the older Oracle Migration Workbench or the SQL*Developer based migration workbench.
There is a note available in Metalink which discusses some options -
Note.388615.1 Ext/Pub How To Migrate DB2 UDB V8
but assuming you don't have access to Metalink I'll paste it here -
Currently there is no plugin for UDB DB2 v8. There is an enhancement request (#4744020) logged to get this plugin.
All customers requiring a V8 UDB plugin for OMWB should get in touch with Oracle Support and ask the support analyst to be subscribed to this enhancement request.
Depending on the demands of this Plugin OMWB development will then decide to provide a plugin for UDB V8.
This note outlines the options for migrating this database without using OMWB.
The options to do a migration without using OMWB are -
- use a gateway - such as TG4DRDA or generic connectivity - to do a 'create Oracle_table as select
from DB2_table' for each table. You would then have to manually create all the other objects,
permissions etc that existed in the DB2 database.
- load the DB2 data into flat files and use SQL*Loader to put into Oracle tables. Again manual
work is required for the other objects.
- contact the Oracle Product Technology Services (PTS) group for assistance. See the webpage -
- use a third party migration tool. See -
These companies may also be able to help specifically with DB2 V8 -
Hi mkirtley ,
Sorry, I didnt notice the updates you had given. Thanks for the pointers.
Yeah. I had gone through that metalink note.
One approach would be to migrate it manually. Move the data from DB2 database to a flat files. There are few DB2 utilities which helps in extract the data from DB2 database and move it to a flatfile. Once that is done , move these flat files to the Oracle server and use sql loader.
Yeah, definitely it would not be a straight forward process as mentioned above. We need to look into many aspects like data type incompatibility between DB2 and Oracle, any blobs ,clob objects issues , data size and many other factors.
