I am setting up a new essbase server, which I have done many times before. However, the essbase instance was not in HSS despite the configuration reporting success. The essbase service starts and stops but I can't add the instance in EAS. I get the following message
Error: 1042003: Network Error : Unable To Locate [ictmisdev01] In Hosts File
I looked up the error and it pointed to a problem with windows host file. I added in the name of the server, as it was the default localhost. This hasn't resolved it.
The relevant ports are open and authentication is happening with HSS from the config log and config.err.
The server is a virtual machine.
Any help is appreciated
You say the essbase service starts and stops, are you sure that the essbase service has started up fully.
You can either check the essbase log or start up essbase from command line.
It is more than likely you can't add the essbase server in EAS if it has not started up properly.
1. Ping the server from your machine to make sure it is up and running. Use a excel addin or maxl etc to check to see you can connect successfuly to the essbase.
2. Try using either the fully qualified DSN name or the IP address directly to isolate the issue.
Hope that helps.
I had already started and stopped essbase from cmd and it is fine. The essbase log shows the olapserver is started. I can see three other essbase servers within EAS and the administration server is connected. I installed EAS after essbase. I have done this many times I didn't recall doing any configuration afterwards as the service already exists on another server. Am I mistakjen?
If essbase has started then it points towards a network issue between the EAS machine and the essbase machine, Rosi has provided information on problem solving that area.
I used the ip address instead of the dns name and it worked. Unsure what the problem is....
