Oracle Client and database under OSX 10.6

      Hello everyone

has anyone tried either the Oracle Client or the full database under Snow Leopard yet? I did not want to upgrade to 10.6 if the client stopped working.

          Hi Paul,

There's a discussion of this topic going in the comment thread of Raimonds Simanovskis' [Mac OS X Oracle Install Guide|http://blog.rayapps.com/2009/04/12/how-to-install-oracle-database-10g-on-mac-os-x-intel/] blog post (starting at around [comment #72|http://blog.rayapps.com/2009/04/12/how-to-install-oracle-database-10g-on-mac-os-x-intel/#comment-593])

I haven't picked up Snow Leopard myself yet, but the verdict seems to be that it's workable, though some tweaking is necessary. Not a new story, I'm sure. ;-)

I can report that after upgrading to Snow Leopard, Oracle 10.2 seems to work just fine on my MacBook Pro. I did not do anything specific to the Oracle instance, other than back it up before I did the upgrade and cross my fingers for the 30-some minutes it took to work. :)

I have created new instructions for Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard:

you can upgrade it but oracle in not reliable after that.
there are so many discussion is going on at all end but ORacle it self is mum. So, if you do this all risk goes to you.

I got Oracle Client and Server running on a fresh Snow Leopard.
                  The effort was quit small.
I just copied Java, did the linking to 1.4.2 and 1.4 version entry from Leopard to /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions and copied the DB install-dir and the database files.
Of course, the user/groups for oracle must be recreated before and the admin group membership has to be set up.
It runs without any difference for me.
Maybe there is a small thing I forgot here, but that's basically what is needed.
Of course it isn't a supported platform.
I circumnavigate root-shell stuff by using startup scripts like:

                  export ORACLE_SID="${1:-ORACLE_SID}"
                  lsnrctl status || lsnrctl start
                  sqlplus -S / as sysdba <<- §ENDOFSQL§
                  startup pfile='/Users/Oracle/Databases/${ORACLE_SID}.oradb/config/inits.ora'
